I don't see the point in doing something I don't enjoy. I love spending time with my kids but love a nice quiet night without them too. Made a lot of changes since then and I hope to share something special with a good friend and maybe something more.Dating after divorce can be tricky, but if you take your time and navigate the right way, it can be a win-win for everyone. I dated my boyfriend (now my husband) for six months before I introduced him to my children.I had to be sure he would be in my life in for a long time. I had a pool party with about four adult guests, him being one of them. We did about five more group outings before he came to do things with just me and my two children. After that, we slowly started holding hands and told the kids he was my boyfriend.Three years and six months later -- we are one super happy family and all because we took it slowly.
In any case, I thought, what’s the big deal about dating a dad? With all the will in the world, you can’t give – or receive – the unconditional love that a parent can.
But I make it to the park after almost turning back, to find James* (my boyfriend) clutching a Pokémon rucksack and an armful of coat, from which a pair of huge eyes and a half-smile appear.
I wave awkwardly at this tiny yet enormously significant human being – all gangly limbs and pretending to be a dinosaur. I have no idea how I got here, but in this moment I realise that life as I know it is about to change.
We slowly began doing fun kids things with just the four of us.
We waited another four months before we showed any affection (hand holding, kissing) in front of them.
Now it's not uncomfortable for me to talk about the fact that kids are just not for me.
